Absinthe Spoon
This perforated stainless-steel spoon is used to dissolve a sugar cube in a glass of absinthe, usually to sweeten the drink and counteract its mild bitterness. The large spoon has a notch in the handle where it rests on the rim of the glass. The traditional way, from the 19th century, is to place a sugar cube on the widest part over the glass, then slowly drip cold water. The water will dissolve the sugar cube, supplying the required sweetness.
